Celebrate Reading Group Month!

I couldn’t let October scurry away without pointing out that it is National Reading Group month and CADL has a wonderful range of book discussion groups throughout the district including groups that focus on Mysteries or Speculative Fiction; groups geared to children, tweens, and teens; and even a couple that meet outside of the CADL branches (at Panera in Frandor and the Soup Spoon Cafe). We also have Bookster—a blog series featuring titles that work well in discussion groups.

So, celebrate with us! Join one of our groups or pick a great title, grab some friends, and have a lovely time discussing books.

Here’s a range of titles our groups have and will be discussing:

The Cuckoo’s Calling by Robert Galbraith       Annie's Ghosts by Steve Luxenberg      Annihilation by Jeff Vandermeer

Haslett’s Mystery Discussion Group recently read a Robert Galbraith (aka J. K. Rowling) mystery debut The Cuckoo’s Calling which has become a popular staff pick. Kiersten H. at Downtown Lansing listened to the audio version and commented, “This is just a really good story.” (staff pick). Future picks include titles by Elly Griffiths and William Kent Kruger.

Many of our groups have tackled the 2013-2014 Great Michigan Read, Annie’s Ghosts by Steve Luxenberg, about Luxenberg’s discovery that his mother was not an only child despite everything he had always been told. So begins a fascinating family mystery and memoir.

EventsFilterDowntown Lansing’s Brew Pub Book Club is a monthly group that meets at the Soup Spoon Café in Lansing and reads a wide variety of titles. One of their recent picks was Annihilation by Jeff Vandermeer and Science Fiction/Horror story about the 12th expedition to Area X by a group of scientists (after 11 groups failed to return). Some of their future picks include titles by Octavia E. Butler and Z. Z. Packer.

To find out what else we’re reading go to the CADL Events page and use the right hand sidebar to filter for book discussions for all the branches, by age,  or the branches closest to you.
